Hinkley Point C approval
15 September 2016
Agneta Rising, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, welcomed today's announcement that the UK government has approved Hinkley Point C.
Speaking at the World Nuclear Association Symposium, Agneta Rising said, "Today's annoucement is good news for nuclear energy in the UK and Europe. The Hinkley Point C project demonstrates the value of international cooperation in new nuclear build, as well as the benefits of jobs and investment that such projects bring to local communities."
Hinkley Point C will generate 7% of the UK’s electricity, avoid 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year and create over 25,000 new employment opportunities. It is the first of a series of new build projects that will bring more than 15 GWe of nuclear generation capacity to the UK.
